Signing: Laurell K. Hamilton – 7th August 2015

On Friday 7th August 2015, hundreds of Laurell K. Hamilton fans converged on Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Shaftesbury Avenue to meet the Bestselling Author of the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series for the signing of her latest release Dead Ice.

As an avid reader, any author signing for authors I follow is fantastic but Laurell K. Hamilton kind of holds a special place for me.  Guilty Pleasures was one of the first vampire books I ever picked up, I was about 11 I think and I remember thinking that it was different from every other book that I’d read – it took me four days to finish that first book and from that moment I devoured everything I could find by her (even her less popular works).

As a #1 New York Times bestselling author with over 40 books under her belt and over 20 years writing experience Laurell K. Hamilton had something to show me then and she still does now.

I was extremely fortunate to be first in line to meet the lovely Laurell, her husband Jon and her team and they were all such nice people – they all took the time to make small talk with us while Laurell was signing our books.

This was the first glimpse of Laurell that I got, she’d just finished signing the pre-order books for the fans who couldn’t get down here to meet her in person.  Technically the first glimpse I got of Laurell was her walking past us in her kick-ass boots but with my wrists I couldn’t get my phone out quick enough to take a photo!

On the left is Laurell’s husband Jon (such a lovely man) – he co-wrote the graphic novel Anita Blake: First Death with Laurell and he signed my friends copy of that too. Laurell in the middle and unfortunately I didn’t get the name of the man in the wicked awesome Sholto shirt but he made small talk with us while we waited, told us where we could get his t-shirt from and and gave us an excellent sales pitch.

These photos were taken while Laurell was signing my books. I unfortunately, didn’t get a picture taken with her but these are good enough for me!  Her t-shirt was amazing too – “I see the assassin’s have failed”  20150807_165353.

London At Last

The first book in the Meredith Gentry series. This book is about 13 years old and was originally published under this cover:  before being published again with a different cover. 20150807_215327

 The beginning of it all

My 14 year old book, the pages are yellowed and the book is slightly falling apart from over-reading but it’s still my favourite.  This is the first book in the Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series.  I chose to get only the first Anita Blake and the first Meredith Gentry books personalised as they’re particularly special to me.

20150807_215357  Micah – USA edition.  This was originally only published in the USA under this cover:  before it was later released in the UK as an omnibus edition with Strange Candy:  although since Laurell changed publishers all the Anita Blake covers are new. I have the omnibus edition but I got Laurell to sign my copy of Micah.

It just didn’t seem right to not get Dead Ice signed.  We were there for the Dead Ice signing and it only seemed right to get it signed too.  This is a pristine copy as I haven’t even read it yet, the first person to open it’s pages was the author herself.

The Laughing Corpse: Animator – Volume 1 graphic novel based on the second book of the Anita Blake Series.  I unfortunately left my copies at home along with my San Diego Comic Con Exclusive sketch variant of the first episode of The First Death comic book as written by Laurell K. Hamilton and Jonathan Green.  I would have loved to have got them both to sign that but I forgot them.  So I purchased a new one at Forbidden Planet, another lady beat me to Guilty Pleasures otherwise I would have had that signed as well.

All in all it was an amazing day.  It was great meeting her and being the first to do so and the first to have my books signed.  I couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick start the month or to end the first week of August.
